Clutchy Hopkins is an interesting guy. Nobody can verify his identity or even existence, as many speculate that it is a well-known producer seeking to release music anonymously. Educated guesses include DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, Madlib, MF Doom, Money Mark, Shawn Lee, or a member of the Beastie Boys.
In any case, he included the bootleg “MF Doom Meets Clutchy Hopkins” with his debut album, and it is amazing. Clutchy only uses live instrumentation - no samples - performed exclusively by himself, including drums, bass, guitar, organ, flute, melodica, and assorted percussion. I’d love to start listening to Clutchy’s solo work, but I can’t stop listening to this bootleg, especially this song.
